Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?
We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.
How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Sort of "Picky girl" loves this food!
By Ross on Oct 24, 2021
My 12 y.o. Border Collie/ Kelpie rescue started having high (bad) blood liver values, so our wonderful vet, Dr. Strope, recommended a Low-Fat/ Digestive Care diet + 2 other supplement recommendations. She can be "picky" sometimes, yet LOVES this food & the other 2 rec's. The only problem I had: getting the prescription to CHEWY. It can't be mailed in, nor faxed in by me, so I had to ask the (very busy) vet to do this for me. I have no way to upload the script that the vet faxed over to me, in order to fwd. it on to CHEWY. Vet & CHEWY together got it done! Thanks to all -

Great Product
By Sammy on Nov 1, 2021
My Puggle was prescribed this product 6 years ago, for stomach and weight issues. My dog did great on it. Unfortunately, my Sammy passed away the other day, on Oct. 29th, from unrelated issues. I had just gotten my shipment of food 2 weeks earlier. I wish I knew someone who could use all the unused food I now have. Hug your babies. Thanks, Chewy, for always making sure he had his food when he needed it.

The excellent service you provide has ended all my frustrations over trying to get my dog's prescription food with other venders! I love your reminders for re-orders and the speed and accuracy of orders sent to me. Thank you for your amazing service, I'm happy that I tried Chewy and I will continue to make my purchases with Chewy.

APlusrating
By Finn on Oct 11, 2021
Had an order lost in transit & the Chewy rep more than made up for the inconvenience. Then I wanted to order small kibble on one order then larger kibble of the same food the next time so I could mix them. Again the Chewy rep made it happen. I switched to Chewy from my Vet's preferred choice because when they couldn't get my dog's prescription diet food they had no answer. Also no human to talk to, very frustrating. I plan on switching his flea & tick meds too. Keep up the good work

Chewy Takes Care of Prescription Verification
By Traveler on Oct 26, 2021
My elderly dog has a gallbladder problem that means he is now on Hill's Prescription Diet permanently. I am so relieved that Chewy takes the initiative to confirm his Rx with my vet for each and every order and saves me the trouble of doing that on my end. Thanks Chewy! (And my dog thinks this new food is delicious - yay!)

Huge bag for a little dog!
By wonderer1 on Oct 21, 2021
I have a cockapoo, he needs this diet. I have had to buy the large bag due to no small bags. I set auto delivery for 5 months, due to him eating only about 1 cup daily. The date outdates in exactly 5 months. Wish there were smaller bags, or longer last dates. That is the only reason for 3 stars.

Canned Dog food
By Cassie on Oct 18, 2021
What I must comment on is there was something different with the canned Hills prescription I/D low fat. It was more mushy. It is normally more firm. So I didn't know if it had the wrong label or what. But my dog ate it fine snd she wasn't sick (because of her pancreatitis)

If it aint broke don't fix it!!
By AbbyDabbyDoo on Aug 27, 2021
Took me quite awhile to concede to giving my little Lhasa this food. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis almost 3 years ago shortly after I adopted her. Vet mentioned this food and I did my research but came up with an alternative to her then current raw diet. A year after that she had another pancreatic flare. I filled the Vet's suggested prescription for this food and from that day to current, no flares and she's a spunky, happy little girl!! So this food WORKS!!! I'm very careful to only feed her this prescription diet and very low fat treats are added a few times per week as well. She's doing great at 15 years old!!
